This is the fallback when Elisabetta is full, when the weather has driven you off the high traverse, or when you simply want a short day. The trade-off is that the valley floor gives you trees and a river instead of the glacier view you came for, and rejoining the balcony next morning costs height you have already paid for once. Consider it a sensible bad-weather option rather than a first choice, and check the bus times: they change with the season and they are not frequent.
