UTMB race week is 24–30 August — plan around it, not into it
Race week runs Monday 24 to Sunday 30 August 2026, with the 174 km UTMB starting from Chamonix at 17:45 on Friday 28th. Several thousand runners will be using your path.

Early July: the standard route is essentially snow-free
Conditions on the Tour du Mont Blanc have turned over to ordinary summer hiking. Most of the standard route is clear, which makes this the point where the guidebook stage times start telling the truth.
Mid-June: the season opens, with four snow-covered crossings to know about
The Tour du Mont Blanc is walkable again, but not everywhere and not carelessly. Snow lingers on the Bonhomme cols and on the Italian Val Ferret approach to Refuge Elena, and the Chapieux shuttle is running.
May: the valleys are walkable, the high cols are not
Late spring on the Tour du Mont Blanc means dry valley floors and cols still holding continuous snow. The season does not open all at once, and the passes are the last part to arrive.
Bookings for summer 2026 opened on 15 October — and the new portal buckled
Reservations for the 2026 season opened on 15 October 2025 for every hut on the Tour du Mont-Blanc association's platform. The rebuilt site struggled under the rush and bookings were suspended while it was fixed.
