The place
A small gîte on the valley road just above La Fouly, at 1710 m. Nothing elaborate — dormitory beds, a meal, a place to hang wet things — but on this stretch that is the entire requirement.
The Swiss Val Ferret between the col and Champex is the Tour's breathing space: two comparatively easy days through hay meadows, larch and villages with fountains, after four days of cols. La Léchère sits in the middle of that, which makes it a good place to have a short day deliberately. Tomorrow's walk down the Drance through Praz-de-Fort and Issert to Champex is barely 15 km with modest climbing, and it is far more pleasant taken slowly than raced.
