Vallorcine's real asset is its railway station. The Mont-Blanc Express runs down the valley to Chamonix and up over the Col des Montets to Martigny, which makes this the easiest place on the entire Tour to start, stop or skip a section. If you are short of a day, or the Aiguilles Rouges are under cloud and the balcony would be pointless, the valley route through Vallorcine is the sensible alternative rather than the poor one.
