The village sits at the point where the Tour is exactly two-thirds through by distance but only about half through by effort: the Swiss valleys are easy, and then the last two days above Chamonix are not. A proper night's sleep here is well timed. If you are considering a rest day but Courmayeur felt too early for one, La Fouly is the other sensible place to take it, with Champex a close third.
