In Entrèves, at the foot of the Skyway cable car that hauls tourists to 3466 m on Punta Helbronner, a kilometre or so off the trail on the Val Ferret side of Courmayeur. Hotel rooms, a restaurant, and a bus into town.

It is a soft night, and there is no shame in that at the midpoint of the Tour. It works particularly well if you are taking a rest day and want to spend it going up the Skyway rather than sitting in Courmayeur — the ride puts you level with the top of the Grandes Jorasses, looking across the Vallée Blanche to Chamonix, in about twenty minutes. If the weather has closed in on the walking, it is also one of the few things on the Tour still worth doing in cloud, because you go above it.
