Above Entrèves on the Chapy slope, a little away from the main line of the Tour and correspondingly quiet. It is road-accessible, which on this stretch is a feature rather than a compromise: the Val Veny and Val Ferret roads are what make the Italian section escapable when a day goes wrong.

Use it as a weather bail-out, or as a comfortable night either side of a Courmayeur rest day when the town itself is full — which in August it can be, because the Tour is not the only thing happening in Courmayeur. The walk back onto the trail is short. Being slightly off the route also means you are not sharing dinner with the same forty people you have been walking behind since the Col de la Seigne.
