At 2136 m on the last balcony, beyond the Brévent, with Mont Blanc filling the sky directly opposite and nothing between the terrace and it but eight kilometres of air. It is small, it is perched, and it is the best-placed final night on the Tour.

From here the last morning is 1100 m of descent to Les Houches — steep at first through the Aiguillette du Brévent, then forest, then the village — and you are down by lunchtime with the loop closed. Staying at Bellachat rather than pushing through to the valley turns the final day from a long slog into a short, spectacular one, and gives you a last evening at altitude looking at the mountain you have just walked around.
