The FFCAM chalet at Le Tour, 1466 m, at the head of the Chamonix valley directly below the Col de Balme. Club-hut prices, club-hut atmosphere: dormitories, a big dining room, and a crowd that is as likely to be going climbing tomorrow as walking.
Le Tour is where the valley bus network starts, so you can be in Chamonix in half an hour, and the Charamillon lift goes back up towards the col if you want to regain height without walking it. As a base it works well for the last two days of the Tour, which are the Aiguilles Rouges balcony and the Brévent — arguably the best walking of the whole loop and certainly the best views of Mont Blanc itself.
